Tree of the Week
Franklinia
Franklinia, also known as Ben Franklin's tree, is a slow growing deciduous tree. It is a small tree growing only to heights of around 30 feet, with Magnolia-like flowers that bloom in late summer. It can withstand full or partial sun and should be planted in well-drained, sandy, loamy or clay soils. The Franklinia usually grows with numerous vertical stems or trunks originating close to ground level. The bright green foliage will turn a vivid orange-red in the fall while some of the flowers are still in bloom.
